Annual Meeting and Cooperative Celebration Held May 22

Wind, rain, and cooler than average temperatures were not ideal but the show must go on and an estimated 3,700 came out to enjoy our Cooperative Celebration festivities under the tents on Wednesday, May 22.

The 63rd Annual Business Meeting of Paul Bunyan Rural Telephone Cooperative was held prior to the Open House at 3:30 p.m.  The meeting included reports for the 2018 fiscal year and the re-election of board director Randy Frisk who was unopposed at the District 5 Caucus held in April.

The Cooperative Celebration was open to the public and featured a free walleye dinner prepared by the Bemidji Fire Department Fish Fry Crew and Lueken’s Village Foods, door prizes, kids’ activities like face painting, balloons, temporary tattoos, storytelling, animals and entertainment from the Headwaters Science Center, Concordia Language Villages, and special guests the Flintstones as seen on Boomerang and Minnesota Timberwolves mascot Crunch.  Known Only Locally & Friends from Bemidji provided the musical entertainment.

Special thanks to the over 130 employees of Paul Bunyan Communications who made the event possible and run as smooth as possible!  We would also like to thank the Bemidji Fire Department, Lueken’s Village Foods, The Party Store, Minnesota State Patrol, Bemidji Police Department, Beltrami County Sheriff’s Department, Paul Bunyan Transit, Minnesota Department of Transportation, Headwater’s Science Center, Portable John, Bemidji Area Tennis Association, Boy Scouts, Concordia Language Villages, Sanford Health Bemidji, Sanford Health Accessories, and Raphael’s Bakery for all their help.

Alice Martell of Cass Lake Wins CMT Music Awards Sweepstakes

Alice Martell of Cass Lake has won the Grand Prize of the CMT Music Awards Sweepstakes from Viacom Networks. Alice is a member of Paul Bunyan Communications, an affiliate of Viacom Networks that participated in the sweepstakes.

As the Grand Prize winner, Alice and guest receive roundtrip airfare to Nashville, TN; three days/two nights hotel accommodations; two tickets to the 2019 CMT Music Awards on June 5, and round-trip ground transportation to/from airport and hotel, to/from hotel and CMT Music Awards.

“Thank you Viacom and Paul Bunyan Communications for helping me with my Bucket List! I still cannot believe I won an all-expense paid trip for two to attend the 2019 CMT Awards in Nashville, TN! I love Country Music and I can’t wait! I’m a little bit crazy and a lotta country!” said Martell.

CMT will make history this year as it packs the “2019 CMT Music Awards,” with more performances than ever before, featuring superstars Carrie Underwood, Dan + Shay, Kane Brown, Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Bryan, Maren Morris, Thomas Rhett, and more to be announced. Hosted by award-winning musical talent Little Big Town, the show will air LIVE from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, June 5 at 7 pm CST. CMT Music is on Paul Bunyan Television channel 352.

14th Annual Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival presented by Paul Bunyan Communications is July 31-August 3; Team Registration Deadline is July 15

The 14th Annual Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival presented by Paul Bunyan Communications is July 31-August 3.

Teams consist of 16-20 paddlers and a drummer with no previous experience required and all the equipment is provided.  Register your team by July 15!

The festival schedule if full of fun for the entire family.  Wednesday features the Sanford Health Taco Fundraiser, Thursday is the 9th Annual Cornhole Tournament for Beltrami County Relay for Life, Friday is the opening ceremonies, parade of teams, and 7th annual Dondelinger GM Sprint Cup Races, and Saturday features a 5k Walk/Run, Race Day Breakfast, and the Dragon Boat races all day.  There is no admission fee and food vendors will be on-site Thursday through Saturday.

Paul Bunyan Communications Certified Apple Service Center is located at the cooperative’s Bemidji headquarters at 1831 Anne Street.  The Apple Service Center is open Monday-Friday from 8:30-5:30 p.m. and services Mac and PC computers along with Apple iPad, iPhone, iPod, Apple Watch, Beats and Apple TV warranty and non-warranty service along with same day screen replacement on iPhone 6s or newer devices.

Annual Meeting and Cooperative Celebration Wednesday, May 22

Paul Bunyan Communications will hold the annual Cooperative Celebration on Wednesday, May 22 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Cooperative’s headquarters in Bemidji.  It is free and open to all.


  • A walleye dinner prepared by the Bemidji Fire Department Fish Fry Crew & Lueken’s Village Foods.
  • Chance to enter door prize drawings
  • Live Musical Entertainment provided by Known Only Locally & Friends of Bemidji

Great kids activities including:

  • Come meet Fred, Wilma, and Dino from the Flintstones as seen on Boomerang and Crunch, the Minnesota Timberwolves Mascot
  • United States Tennis Association’s QuickStart Tennis
  • Activities and animals from the Headwaters Science Center
  • Face painting
  • Balloons

The Cooperative Celebration is FREE and open to all.

The 63rd Annual Business will precede the celebration beginning at 3:30 p.m.  The Annual Meeting is only open to current members of the cooperative.

Paul Bunyan Communications is excited to announce the winners of the 4th Annual Pick-it March Mania Challenge.  623 participants entered the free online contest to pick the winners of the college basketball tournament games for a chance to win a credit on a Paul Bunyan Communications account.

District 5 Caucus Held April 2

The District Five Caucus was held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2 at the Helga Community Center.

The purpose of the caucus meeting is to nominate a director candidate or candidates to represent the district on the Paul Bunyan Communications Board of Directors.

As a result of the District 5 Caucus, Randy Frisk has been re-elected Director District 5 with the term expiring in the year 2024.

In addition to being an opportunity to nominate persons to represent District 5, the caucus meeting was an opportunity for members to ask questions concerning the Cooperative.  The meeting was attended by several managers/supervisors, including CEO/General Manager Gary Johnson.
