Our cooperative has a long history of giving back to the communities we serve through contributions of both time and money. From donating over $30,000 annually to educational scholarship for local students to sponsoring major events such as the Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival, we remain committed to improving the lives of those we serve and the communities we call home. Donations - 2008
Bemidji Skate Park

Freedom Defenders Veterans Memorial
Leland Coe, (right) Chairman of the Freedom Defenders Memorial Board receives a donation check from Bemidji Board Member Jim Sutton. The Memorial was started in 2001 as a goal of many area Veterans and has grown to include a life sized statue of Charles Lindberg, the last surviving flag raiser at the battle for Iwo Jima. The statue is flanked by the US flag and flags from each branch of the military. The final phase will include stone pillars which will depict the figures of military men and women from all services and a K9 war dog. This monument is located at the Beltrami History Center in Bemidji.
Itasca County YMCA

Bemidji Senior Center
Paul Bunyan Telephone recently made a donation to the Bemidji Senior Center to help them better serve the region’s senior population. The Center’s mission is to provide opportunities for older adults to develop and sustain their potential as individuals and citizens of our community. Mississippi Headwaters Area Dental Health Center
Jeanne Edevold Larson (right) accepts a donation from PBT board member, Bruce Campbell (left), that will go towards two televisions in the family/child-friendly waiting area in their new community access dental clinic.
Ponemah Fire Department
Brian Johnson (left) of the Ponemah Fire Dept. accepts a donation check from Director Vernon Clark at the Ponemah Fire Station. The Department has grown considerably over the years and six new firemen were in need of equipment such as extraction gloves, jackets, boots, work shirts and hats. Thank you to Ponemah Fire & Rescue for all your years of service to the community.

Bemidji Vocalmotive Choir
Members of the Bemidji Vocalmotive Choir show their appreciation for a recent PBT donation. Vocalmotive is an award winning, broad-based music and theater program that performs at competitions across the U.S. under Director Chris Fettig and Assistant Director Kevin Chase.

2008 Youth Tour Essay Contest winner. Jennifer represented Paul Bunyan Telephone at the 2008 Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) Youth Tour in Washington, D.C.

Events - 2008
Paul Bunyan Telephone's Annual Meeting and Cooperative Celebration Another Huge Success
Over 6,500 attended the Paul Bunyan Telephone Annual Cooperative Celebration on Wednesday, May 29th. The Celebration was held at the Paul Bunyan Telephone Headquarters in Bemidji and was open to the public. The event featured a free walleye dinner prepared by the Bemidji Fire Department Fish Fry Crew and Lueken's Village Foods, door prizes and entertainment.
Approximately 1700 children were entertained with kids activities like face painting, balloons, temporary tattoos, storytelling, animals and entertainment from the Headwaters Science Center, Quick Start Tennis from USTA, and special guests from PBS including Cassie from "Dragon Tales" and Barney from "Barney and Friends".
Freedom Call provided musical entertainment and the Ponemah Dance Troupe provided dance and drumming entertainment.
Special thanks to all of the of Paul Bunyan Telephone employeeswho made the event possible! We would also like to thank the Bemidji Fire Department, Lueken’s Village Foods, The Party Store, Lakeland Public Television, Minnesota State Patrol, Freedom Call, Ponemah Dance Troupe, Bemidji Civil Air Patrol, Bemidji Area Citizen's Patrol, USTA Quickstart Tennis, Beltrami Electric Cooperative, Paul Bunyan Transit, Minnesota Department of Transportation, Headwater’s Science Center, Bob’s Econo Pump, Bemidji Police Department, Beltrami Soil and Conservation, Cub Scout Troop #32 and Raphael’s Bakery for all their help.
Large Crowd Takes in the 3rd Annual Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival presented by Paul Bunyan Telephone
Paul Bunyan Telephone was proud to be the presenting sponsor of the 3rd Annual Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival held July 31-Aug 2! 64 teams competed in the races and thousands took in the three day festival. Congratulations to the PBT Smooth Operators on their 10th place finish and to the PBTV Digital Dragons who made it to the Silver Division Championship. Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce’s Community Fishing Opener BBQ with Special Guests, The Berenstain Bears
The Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce’s Community Fishing Opener BBQ on May 9th was a huge succes. There was music, food vendors, and lots of kids activities including a casting contest & moonwalk by Rapids Rental and Supply and the appearance of the Berenstain Bears with over 450 free goodie bags given away courtesy of Paul Bunyan Television. The annual Grand Rapids Fishing Opener BBQ was presented by the Area Business Committee (ABC) of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and was sponsored in part by Paul Bunyan Telephone.
Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat at the Deer River Wild Rice Festival!
Paul Bunyan Television brought Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat to the 60th Annual Deer River Lion’s Club Wild Rice Festival on Saturday, July 12. Over 250 kids got to meet and have their picture taken the loveable PBS characters and took part in the many various activities going on at the world’s largest wild rice festival. Some of the weekend’s events included fireworks, the Colgate Country Showdown, concerts and kids events.
Nick Game Lab Visits Grand Rapids
Paul Bunyan Telephone brought Nick Game Lab to Grand Rapids on Saturday, July 19th in conjunction with the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce Crazy Days.
The interactive stage show featured a variety of high energy games and physical challenges with several local kids and adults on stage getting into the action.
Despite the overcast skies and light rain, Over 1,700 attended the two forty-five minute Nick Game Lab shows that took place in the Old Kremer’s Parking Lot across from the Central Square Mall. Tickets were free courtesy of Paul Bunyan Telephone.
In addition to Nick Game Lab, over a dozen non-profit agencies from Itasca County had booths outside the seating area open with games, food, and fun for the entire family!
