How to Sign Up for Web Hosting Service

There are two things that you need to do (in no particular order) to get your own domain name up and running with Paul Bunyan Net's Web Hosting service:  Apply for Web Hosting service and purchase a domain name.

If you have any services from Paul Bunyan Communications, you can contact us to have Web Hosting added to your current account.  If you do not any services with us:

• Sign up at one of our local offices in Bemidji or Grand Rapids or; 
• You can call our office and we will fill out the application by phone and mail it to you for a signature.

Registering a Domain Name

You will need to choose and register a domain name and then "point" it to us. This may be done before or after setting up your Web Hosting account.  However, your Web Hosting account will not work until this is done.  If you are not familiar with this process or would like help, please contact us and we can help you. 

Domain names can be found and purchased from Dotster, GoDaddy or any other domain name registrar.  Typically a .com, .net, or .org domain name will cost $7 - $35 per year depending on the registrar.  When registering your domain name, fill out the Owner, Administrative, and Billing contact information with your name or company's name and information.  The Technical contact and Name Servers that you need are listed below. If you already have a domain name registered, just go to your registrar's website, login and change the Technical Contact and Name Servers to the one's below.

Web Hosting and CPANEL Settings

In the settings listed below, replace "yourdomain.com" with your website's address. For example, if your website is www.bemidjibusiness.net then you would change your incoming mail server to "mail.bemidjibusiness.net".

cPanel

For most website owners or administrators who do not do their own website design, you will probably only access cPanel to manage your e-mail accounts and view your website statistics.

• Website owners and administrators can access cPanel by going to: cpanel.yourdomain.com (Use your FTP account's username and password to login.)

Mail Settings

• Incoming Mail Server (POP3): mail.yourdomain.com authenticated with your e-mail address and password on Port 110 (No SSL)
• Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.com authenticated with your e-mail address and password on Port 91 (no SPA or SSL/TLS)
• You may also use smtp.paulbunyan.net for your SMTP server if you are always connected to our network computer using a Paul Bunyan Internet connection.
  
• Account Name/Username: your full e-mail address

Webmail

You can access your e-mail from your webmail site when you are not on your primary computer or you are outside the Paul Bunyan Net service territory. We do not recommend using the webmail center as your primary access to your e-mail. Please set up e-mail software (i.e. Windows Live Mail, Mac Mail, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Windows Mail, Outlook, etc.) on the computer you use the most.

• Webmail can be found at: webmail.yourdomain.com

There are three webmail programs there for you to use:

• Round Cube (easy to use and a nice interface - recommended)
• Horde (has more advanced features, but may be more difficult to use)
• SquirrelMail (less features, but easy to use)

Feel free to use the one you are most comfortable with. Your mail will be displayed in any of them you choose. You can alternate between them also if you wish.
